Spring brings a period of transition where dry, dusty winds from the north can occasionally sweep through the valleys, carrying fine particulate matter before the rains arrive. Summer is characterized by high humidity and the arrival of the monsoon, which typically cleanses the air through heavy precipitation, making it the most favorable season for outdoor activities. However, the intense heat can occasionally trigger stagnant air masses in the valleys. Autumn offers a pleasant, stable period with moderate temperatures and clear skies, though the onset of the harvest season can introduce localized smoke from agricultural residue management. Winter is the most challenging period for air quality. As temperatures drop, the region frequently experiences strong temperature inversions, where a layer of warm air traps cooler, denser air—and its associated pollutants—near the valley floor. During these months, residential coal or biomass heating becomes more prevalent, increasing local emissions just as the atmosphere's ability to disperse them reaches its lowest point.
