Its coordinates (39.2458, 9.1288) place it within a gently sloping terrain, transitioning from the coastal plains towards the Campidano plain, a vast sedimentary basin dominating central Sardinia. The city’s elevation, averaging around 60 meters above sea level, contributes to localized air circulation patterns. Pirri’s proximity to the Mediterranean Sea is a defining characteristic, influencing humidity levels and prevailing winds, which can both disperse and concentrate pollutants. The surrounding landscape is a blend of agricultural land – primarily vineyards and olive groves – and increasingly, urban sprawl as Cagliari expands. This urban–rural gradient means Pirri experiences a mix of agricultural emissions (dust from tilling, pesticide drift) and urban pollutants.
