Vicuña, nestled in the Coquimbo Region of Chile, occupies a dramatic and geographically significant position within the Elqui Valley. Located at approximately -30.0333° latitude and -70.7167° longitude, the city sits at an elevation of around 510 meters (1,673 feet) above sea level, contributing to its generally dry climate and unique atmospheric conditions. The Elqui Valley itself is renowned for its clear, dark skies, a consequence of its aridity and minimal light pollution, attracting astronomers and astrotourists. Vicuña is cradled by the foothills of the Andes Mountains to the east, providing a stunning backdrop and influencing local wind patterns.
