The Yangtze River, a vital shipping artery, contributes to emissions from vessel traffic, while the city's position as a transportation hub—dubbed the 'thoroughfare of nine provinces'—intensifies vehicle exhaust. Wuhan lies within China's central industrial belt, with steel production, automobile manufacturing, and power generation concentrated in its eastern and western districts, creating distinct pollution plumes.
