Blackburn, situated within the unitary authority of Blackburn with Darwen in Lancashire, England, occupies a geographically constrained position within the North West of the United Kingdom. The town is nestled in the Darwen Valley, a landscape sculpted by glacial activity, resulting in a relatively hilly terrain. This valley location, at approximately 150 metres above sea level, significantly influences local air quality. Blackburn’s position within the Pennine foothills creates a natural bowl effect, prone to trapping pollutants during periods of calm weather.
